Principal’s Message:

What a wonderful year this has been! This Cavitt Connection is the last one for the 2016/2017 school year. As we close out this year, I wanted to express my gratitude towards the students and families that make Cavitt a very special school.  I am very proud to be the Principal of Cavitt Junior High School. I am fortunate to be leading a high-performing school with teachers who are dedicated, volunteer a lot on campus, and are supported by an amazing classified staff that who take the initiative and care about students. Additionally, I get to share my days with inquisitive, thoughtful, funny adolescents supported by wonderful and generous families – truly who could ask for a better job? So, on behalf of the entire staff, thank you to our families for all of the support you have provided this year and read on so you can be amazed, as we are, at the outstanding achievement of our students!

We wish our 8th graders good luck in high school and beyond, we can’t wait to see our incoming 8th graders in the Fall and to see our WEB program welcome our new 7th graders and new 8th graders to campus! Go Cowboys!

Bring Your Own Device:

Join the Eureka Union School District and the Eureka Schools Foundation as we launch an exciting new initiative called "Bring Your Own Device".  This program would allow and highly encourage 4th - 8th graders to bring their own Chromebook devices to school to access digital content through the EUSD network.  One major benefit is the student familiarity with their own device.

To support this program, exclusive pricing has been arranged to offer families the opportunity to purchase Chromebooks for use in the classroom and at home.  You will soon see the attached flyer, Student Personal Chromebook Salecome home.  This sale is open to any student in our district but only grades 4th - 8th will be allowed to bring their own device to school this coming school year.  Students and families are expected to read, understand, and agree to abide by the Student-Technology Acceptable Use Agreement, which is signed annually at the beginning of the school year.  Please note that only Chromebooks purchased through this program are permitted for use on the EUSD network as these have been specifically selected to be compatible with the current 4-8 curriculum.

WHAT:   The sale of HP Chromebook 11 G5 - Education Edition with new generation Celeron processor and 4G of RAM.  All devices will include student name etching.

WHEN:   Orders can be placed beginning June 15, 2017 thru September 15, 2017.  Chromebooks will be bulk shipped to the district office and you will be contacted for pick-up or delivery of your Chromebook.  CDW-G, our company for purchasing, estimates allowing 4-6 weeks for name etching and shipping.

WHERE:   To order, visit  www.cdwg.com/eurekausd      parents will charge the order to their credit card.

WHY:   Chromebook devices for use at home and in the classroom.  Students in grades 4th - 8th will be permitted to Bring Your Own Device for use with class assignments beginning August 2017.

WHO:  For questions about ordering and pick-up (schedule for pick-up will be arranged as devices are bulk delivered), contact EUSD parent Leslie Braun at lesliebraun27@gmail.com

Thank you and we hope you consider taking advantage of this Chromebook sale for use of a personal device at home and at school.

GATE Teacher Input Process:

If your child has been identified as a GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) student in the Eureka Union School District, please read the information below.

Beginning in the 2011-12 school year, we implemented improved targeted methods for meeting GATE students’ academic and social/emotional needs. Teachers of each GATE student in grades 4-8 develop an Individualized (annual) GATE Plan (IGP), which details the curriculum modifications and differentiated learning opportunities offered at their grade level in order to ensure that GATE students are appropriately challenged throughout the school year. Your student’s teacher will develop and IGP for your child, in Fall 2017.

Parents of GATE students may request that their child be placed in the class of a GATE certified teacher, or in a GATE Cluster classroom, when that option is available. If you would like to request that your child be placed with a GATE certified teacher, or in a GATE Cluster classroom, please submit in writing to the Cavitt Office no later than June 1st.   You may also forward your GATE identification letter to Ms. Platt at jplatt@eurekausd.org or to Mrs. Campo at lcampo@eurekausd.org. Please note that we do our best to honor parent input however, we are unable to accept requests for particular teachers by name or gender.
