6th Grade/ New Parent Orientation Night on Wednesday, March 22nd

If you or someone you know is interested in hearing the facts about the outstanding academic opportunities or our unique, extensive and innovative STEM courses - consider attending our 6th Grade and New Family Orientation evening, March 22nd at 6:00 in the Cavitt multi-purpose room.

A teacher from each of the Departments will be describing our courses including English/History, Mathematics, Physical Education, Science and Music.  Additionally, we will talk about the inclusive and caring culture of Cavitt.  We believe in supporting students with a variety of extra-curricular activities in our library, at lunch or as part of our community building activities.

Transition to junior high is made easier when the family and student knows as much as possible, let us help you on this journey!

CJSF Hat Drive:

Thanks to the generosity of Cavitt students and families, CJSF members delivered 68 new hats to Kaiser Roseville.  These 68 hats will be donated to Pediatric Cancer patients.  Thank you to the 70 students who donated hats and money!!

Destination Imagination:

Congratulations to Cavitt’s Destination Imagination team, the Beanie Bros. (Carter N., Luke S., Kenny D., Sam W., Jennifer W., and Jack S.), for outstanding performance in the Destination Imagination Tournament!  The team earned a spot to compete in the State Tournament!  Great job Beanie Bros!

Dress Code Reminder:

With the weather getting warmer, we wanted to revisit the dress code rules with families.  Dress code will be enforced through the last day of school. These rules can be found on Page 8 from the Student Handbook:

  • Dress should be modest, neat, clean, appropriate and compatible with educational activities.

  • For health and safety reasons shoes must be worn at all times.

  • NO torn clothing that exposes skin 5 inches above the knee: pants, shorts, skirts, etc.

  • Shorts and skirts may be worn but they must be tailored: no un-hemmed cutoffs or skirts, no “short shorts”, or skirts. Miniskirts are not allowed. Shorts and skirts must measure 5 inches or less above the knee. (A recent issue is athletic shorts, be aware that they can be too short!)

  • Legging/yoga pants may only be worn if covered with a shirt that is of fingertip length.

  • “Halter”, “bandeau/tube”, and tank tops with oversize armholes, sheer or lace tops are not appropriate at school. Midriffs must be covered. Students may not wear spaghetti straps, strapless or backless tops/dresses. Straps must measure 1 inch wide, and NO undergarments may show.

  • Pants/shorts must be worn with the waistband of the pants/shorts up around the waist – no “sagging” pants/shorts.

  • Emblems, words and pictures on clothing should be appropriate for junior high school students (i.e. no obscenities, vulgar language, indecency, violence or drug and alcohol references).

  • No pajamas or slippers are to be worn to school.

  • Hats and hoods are not to be worn in the classroom. Hoods may be worn outside only during inclement weather.

Lost and Found:

Our lost and found bin is overflowing!!! Please remind your students to check for any missing items in our lost and found. We will be donating unclaimed items to charity over the spring break.

8th Grade Graduation Packets:

Eighth grade students were given their graduation packets this week. Please make sure to thoroughly go through the packets. They contain important information about graduation festivities as well as forms that need to be filled out and returned. Additional packets are available in the Cavitt office. Packets are due back by April 7th.

ESF’s Annual Art Auction & Music Exhibition:

Mark your calendars for this year’s ESF Art Auction and Music Exhibition to be held Friday, March 24th from 5:00-8:00pm at Bayside Church.  Bring the whole family and bid on artwork from your child’s classroom, enjoy performances from EUSD bands and choirs, win raffle prizes, dine on delicious food… all while supporting the wonderful enrichment programs that benefit each child in our District!

To encourage families to attend, there will be a SELFIE BOOTH! Every Cavitt student who sends or shows his/her Art Auction selfie to the Cavitt office will earn a “Head of the Line” pass. Join us!

TOPSoccer is kicking off another season on April, 21.  TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) is a community-based soccer program for young athletes with special needs, organized by youth soccer association volunteers. TOPSoccer provides a safe and active environment for players who are challenged by the demands of traditional soccer. We hope to see you on the pitch!

2017-2018 EUSD School Calendar:

On December 13, 2016, the EUSD Board of Trustees approved the calendar for the 2017-2018 school year.  We have attached a copy of the calendar for your convenience and for reference when planning your vacations.

Independent Study Contract:

Parents must notify the School principal, Designee or Office Staff of the need for requesting a Master Agreement for Short Term Independent Study NO LESS THAN FIVE (5) BUSINESS DAYS PRIOR to the initiation (first day) of the Agreement.  Assignments will be provided on the school day prior to the entry date noted on the Master Agreement.  All assignments must be returned to school no later than the school day following the exit date noted on the Master Agreement in order for the student to receive attendance credit.

All short term Independent Study Agreements need to be completed prior to 2 weeks from the last day of school and no new Agreements will be started during the last 2 weeks of school.

Interdistrict and Intradistrict Transfer Requests for 2017-2018:

Eureka Union School District has begun accepting Interdistrict and Intradistrict Transfer Requests for the 2017-2018 school year. All current Interdistrict and Intradistrict Transfer Requests must be renewed annually.

Interdistrict Transfer Requests

Parents must request a transfer from the district of residence.  If you will reside outside of the EUSD boundaries for 2017-18, please contact your district of residence to complete an Interdistrict Transfer Request Form.

Intradistrict Transfer Requests

Families residing within the EUSD boundaries may request an Intradistrict Transfer Request for attendance at a EUSD school outside of your assigned area.  Families who currently have an approved Intradistrict Transfer also need to REAPPLY ANNUALLY. Intradistrict forms are available at your school site or at the district office.
