Makeups:

Week of May 21st

Reminders:

**Please remind your students to bring their own earbuds/headphones for testing.  We will have earphones; but, it will be even smoother (and less costly) if students bring their own!

IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT IT WILL BE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT FOR STUDENTS TO BE PICKED UP EARLY DURING THE TESTING WINDOW.  The nature of the computer adapted tests does not allow us to guarantee that interrupting a test session WILL NOT result in an impact to the student’s score, since many of the questions require narrative answers and students MAY NOT BE ABLE TO RETURN TO AN INCOMPLETE ANSWER once the test is closed.

For More information about the state testing program, please visit the California Department of Education Website.

Thank you, in advance, for doing your best to ensure that your students are at school during the entire testing window, and for your support during this important assessment period.

**Visitor/Volunteer Sign-in is Here**

Visitor / Volunteer Sign in Pilot: Beginning April 16th, Cavitt will be piloting a new sign-in system for our visitors.  This system requires a volunteer or visitor to scan their driver's license and takes a picture on your first visit. Subsequent visits, all you have to do is scan your license and a label will be made for you. We are hoping that this speeds up the process of checking in and checking out, as long as parents bring their ID’s with them. When checking out, all you have to do is scan your visitor label - it's super quick! :)  In the future, we will be piloting this same system to check in our students who are late. Thanks for your patience as we try this new technology!

**Library Happenings**

Poem in Your Pocket Day in the Library

Poem in Your Pocket Day 2018 is on April 26 (Thursday) and is part of National Poetry Month. People throughout the United States celebrate by selecting a poem, carrying it with them, and sharing it with others throughout the day. Let’s join the celebration Cavitt! Students who come to the library with a ‘Poem in the Pocket’ and are ready to share it with Mrs. K will get a cookie. Only one poem per student!

MakerSpace in the Library Fridays

Cavitt Library host  ‘Makerspace’ during lunch every Friday. Makerspace is a program that offers resources to students to help them become creative, innovative and independent. By providing hands-on, creative ways for students to design, experiment, build and invent. Makerspace helps them engage deeper in science, engineering and the arts. We offer students traditional arts and crafts supplies, building planks, Legos, Perler beads, snap circuits, clay, origami, puzzles, Magnetix, K’nex, playing cards and chess.

Makerspace on Friday is a great way to learn, create, build and have fun while hanging out with friends during lunch!

**EUSD Substitute Employees Needed**

Want to be fulfilled and add joy to your day? Work for EUSD!

Many years of budget cuts have depleted the pool of educators in teacher preparation programs, and have therefore limited our substitute pool, but many of you love kids, and may be looking for something fun and rewarding to do. Subbing may be your answer! The sub positions will ebb and flow in amount and variety of position throughout the school year, so please go to our website and occasionally look for opportunities that may fit you at eurekausd.org, click on Departments - Human Resources - and the picture box labeled Employment Opportunities. Finally, click the link, and it will take you directly to positions for Eureka Union for you to consider! There is no greater joy than working with kids!

Thank you for reading!  Go Cowboys!
