We recently had to make some hard decisions regarding reductions to our athletics program. I am excited to announce that we are now able to take a new direction in regards to the athletic reductions and our Wrestling program.  I had the opportunity to meet and discuss the opportunity to have Cavitt families fundraise to support us offering Wrestling for this year only.  We have had an outstanding response with the requested Voluntary Athletic Contributions (VAC’s) for our Fall sports. My hope is that all of our sport seasons will see the same positive growth in the number of families donating!

With the increased VAC’s and, hopefully, a positive response to our call for direct donations, Wrestling can be saved with total donations totaling $3,000.  I believe our Cavitt community can accomplish this!  Moving into 2019-2020, the school community must increase donations to ESF to ensure that future athletics reductions can be avoided.  We will still need to address the structural deficit in our athletics program going into 2019-2020, if ESF donations do not increase. Further reductions (cutting of sports) is still a possibility for next year depending on fundraising this year by ESF and our local VAC’s.

ESF has and continues to work tirelessly and diligently to fundraise to support district-wide enrichment programs. Donations from ESF to EUSD must increase to cover more of the approximately $80,000 required to provide coaching stipends at both schools.  Junior High’s now have a role in supporting coaching stipends with our local VAC donations; however if more funds are not raised by ESF athletic reductions loom in our future.  At best, with 80% of families donating, after paying league fees and officiating costs, VAC donations will fall short of the $20,000 required of school sites to pay for coaching stipends.

If you are able to partner with us, by directly donating for THIS YEAR’s Wrestling team, please make your check out to Cavitt JHS and in the memo section, please note Wrestling Donation. We need to collect the $3,000 by November 27th. Mr. Robertson will hold a Wrestling interest meeting with students on November 13th. VAC donations will be requested prior to the practice season starting December 1st.

Thank you to all the parents that contacted me or contacted the Eureka Union District Office, I am excited to be able to potentially offer Wrestling for our students!
