“If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement,
and mystery of the world we live in.”
― Rachel Carson

7th Grade Science

Student Participation and Safety: This course requires a high degree of student participation in discussion, guided practice, presentations, projects and laboratory experiments. I expect each student to conduct him/herself in a manner befitting a young adult. Each student should demonstrate consideration for others, personal responsibility and safety in the classroom. Students should always behave in a manner that is conducive to education and should never jeopardize the class’ opportunity to learn. The general guiding principles for our classroom include: • Respect Yourself: Respect Others • Listen when others are talking, participate actively and learn everything possible. • Be open to new things. All good scientists keep an open mind! 7th Grade Science targets the following skills and content guided by the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS): • disciplinary core ideas (Life, Physical, Earth and Space Sciences) • scientific and engineering practices • academic vocabulary usage • strategic note taking • scientific writing skills including: claims, reasoning and evidence statements • creative and critical thinking skills • problem solving skills • identification and analysis of relationships: patterns, cause/effect; structure/function; systems/models; energy/matter; stability/change; scale/proportion
