Need To KnowTop of Page

Welcome back to school and welcome to Cavitt Junior High! It's my first year here too, so we'll be getting to know the place together :-)

We have a lot of great science to learn this year, so we're going to get started right away. We will follow the textbook, more or less, throughout the year. We'll skip over a few sections and combine others along the way. But you can be sure that Ms. Bickley and I carefully planned it so that we will cover the most important life science topics and begin the transition to the Next Generation Science Standards.

In Chapter 1, we'll cover sections 1, 2, and 3 in detail -- that means you'll need to read those sections and do the corresponding workbook pages. Section 4 is about lab safety. We're not going to ignore that of course, but we'll be incorporating it throughout the school year.

I will give you a vocabulary list for each chapter. We'll be doing some activities with the vocab words and you'll need to know them in order to do well on the chapter tests. Speaking of tests, there will be a test at the end of each chapter of study.

All class handouts will be available on this website. I'll put them in the "Class Handouts" section in the left column of each chapter's web page. If you can't find something you're looking for, just email me.

Be sure to check my class calendar often. It's on the "7th Grade Science" page of my website. I will put all your homework assignments there as well as the test dates. If you are absent from school, just check the calendar and the Class Handouts list.

  3. Planning and carrying out investigations
  4. Analyzing and interpreting data
  5. Using math and computational thinking
  6. Constructing explanations
  7. Engaging in argument from evidence
