The eighth grade science course consists of four main units. Although the course of study focuses on Physical and Earth Science, the units will be taught in an integrated manner with connections between all science disciplines emphasized. All relevant NGSS 8th grade standards will be incorporated within our current units including disciplinary core ideas, crosscutting concepts, as well as, science and engineering practices.

Students are expected to come to class prepared
The appropriate materials must be brought to class daily:
- Workbook: Reading and Note Taking Guide
- Pencil and Pen (blue or black, and red)
- 1-1 ½inch three-ringed Science Binder
- Paper (recommend college ruled, 8 1/2 by 11, not spiral bound)
- Cavitt School Planner

Grades will be determined from the following categories and approximate percentages:

Extra credit will be given to students who correctly follow the criteria listed below:
- Answer assessment questions that are found at the end of each chapter section.
- Each question must be typed and followed by an answer written as a complete sentence.
- A proper paper heading (see example below) must be included.
- One homework point of extra credit will be awarded for each correctly answered question.
- A maximum of 10 points can be earned per chapter.
- Extra credit points for a chapter can only be earned up until the final test for the chapter.
