I am excited about the promise a new school year brings to us – renewed enthusiasm, spirit and dedication! We have made amazing growth at Cavitt JHS and we are inspired to continue our efforts!
We are proud of our achievements as a school including being named a Gold Ribbon Model School for ourSTEM Program in 2015 by the State of California. Only 193 junior high schools earned this distiction in the state and only 2 schools in Placer County! We have been a California Honor Roll Scholar School since 2013 and just earned that award again for 2015.
Our students, in small groups and as individuals, have earned high praise this past year! The Cavitt Band earned a Gold Award during Spring Tour competition and the Trumpet section earned addition recognition! Our after-school VEX teams did outstanding during competitions this year also. The 7th Grade won a Creativity Award at a regional competition and our 8th Grade team won a spot to compete at the VEX Worlds. The 8th grade team did outstanding by placing 19th out of 86 teams an also earned 4th Place in the Robot Skills Challenge. We also had a 7th grade female student win a spot at UC Davis' Teck Trek summer workshop sponsored by the AAUW. Our students are invested in learning and demonstrating their skills and talents! We are so proud of our dedicated and curious students!
We are proud of our growth in every category and of our outstanding students performance! We will continue to make decisions that we think will address our students best interest as we ready them for their futures. For 2016 - 2017, we are implementing the WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) program which will support our incoming 7th graders as it provides mentorship by trained 8th graders for increased social support and respectful behaviors between students!
I would like to acknowledge a few specific accomplishments. We are excited about our new 7th Grade STEM elective offered this year - Science Challenge. Our students will be studying Forensics, Comparative Anatomy and a multi-media Challenge 21 Project! Our Science Tech class will be offered for the second year with Robotics, Enviornmental Chemistry, Engineering and Rocketry as focus areas! Our media lab is running with a daily live news program that is uploaded to our website, podcasts and will be using Stop Motion software this year! Student Achievement has always been very important at Cavitt; but, we instituted an updated student achievement recognition program last year that will be continuing. Go Cowboys!
Please take some time to browse through our website as it is new and we are continuing to add new content! We love to "show off" our students skills, talents and interests and we are proud of what our Cowboys accomplish!
