We are now recruiting for Cavitt Cyber Cowboys (VEX 9537), a parent organized, student-led competitive robotics team for Cavitt Jr High School students. In addition to recruiting student members, we need parents to volunteer as mentors and help restart the program.

Cavitt Cyber Cowboys Team #9537
   
The Cavitt Cyber Cowboys VEX Robotics Club wil be returning to competition in the 2021-2022 season. We are currently recruiting Adult Mentors to help restart the program. Please contact the Cavitt office or email Cavitt.Robotics@gmail.com for more information.
 
Specifically, we are looking for:
  • Incoming 7th and 8th graders from Cavitt Jr High School extremely interested in VEX robotics and committed to participating in meetings, competitions, and required open house/show case events
  • Students in enrolled in Cavitt's PLTW classes, or students who have demonstrated programming and robotics building skills
  • Students with positive attitudes & energy, ready to represent Cavitt with pride, and demonstrating sportsmanship and respect in every aspect of their engagement with teammates, mentors, alliance teams, competitors and officials
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in small teams
  • Parent mentors to help guide the team in new concepts, technical skills and productivity
The team works very hard during the season!   Generally, the team meets 2 times per week during the school year, but with extra meetings leading into competitions!  The team will hold a series of introductory/training meetings over the summer to ensure a good fit for the team and the applicants.  
 
Space in the program may be limited based on equipment availability, meeting space size/availability, number of technical mentors/parent volunteers, and other factors.   Regular participation in work meetings, and full participation at team events is required to be part of the team.

VEX Demonstration June 1st 11:45 @ Cavitt

PART (Placer Advanced Robotics and Technology will be demoing their 2020-2021 VEX Worlds Change Up competition robots on Tuesday, Junes 1st at Cavitt Jr High to support the Cavitt VEX Robotics Club restart. The demonstrations / Q&A  will begin at 11:45 and will include former Cavitt VEX team members who will share their Cavitt experiences.

Requirements
  • Cavitt Jr High Students
  • 8th Graders: Cavitt Project Lead the Way STEM Classes
  • 7th Graders: Demonstrated interest and aptitude in robotics & programming
  • Demonstrated maturity to handle meetings and work well in teams
  • Season long commitment
  • Students with positive attitudes & energy, ready to represent Cavitt with pride, and demonstrating sportsmanship and respect in every aspect of their engagement with teammates, mentors, alliance teams, competitors and officials
  • Active parent participation required
  • All students must complete summer course work (game rules, online courses, programming introduction) to be considered
 
Commitments 
  • Summer homework to learn fundamentals and demonstrate engagement
  • Adhere to behavior expectations and strictly follow safety rules
  • Attend meetings and be active participants in team for the full season
  • Attend all robotics competitions as scheduled
    • Tournaments are full-day events typically in Greater Sacramento, Bay Area and/or Central Valley
    • Most middle school tournaments are Saturdays, some are Sunday events
  • Represent robotics team at Cavitt and Ridgeview open houses (mandatory)
  • Parent participation required
  • Financial support - self funded team

   *Additional meetings and/or times extended as teams get closer to competition
 
 
Typical Season Schedule (2021-2022 TBD Based on COVID progression) 
  • June-July: Introduction meetings, online lessons and hands on projects to confirm interest
  • August: fully form teams, kickoff strategy and design for current game
  • Sep-Nov: Build and Test
  • 3-4 Regular Season Tournaments
    • Events begin as early as Septmber, but Cavitt typically targets late Oct/Nov for first event 
  • February: Last month to qualify for State Championships
  • March: Northern California State Championships
  • April: VEX Worlds (Dallas, TX)
  • May: Demonstrations and open houses
